چکیده

We numerically investigate the application of steady blowing to three-dimensional stalled flows around lowaspect-ratio rectangular flat-plate wings at a Reynolds number of 300. The objective of this study is to explore techniques to enhance lift by directly modifying the dynamics of the wake vortices. Out of various combinations of forcing location anddirection considered,we identify two configurations that provide significant lift enhancement. In these cases, actuation appears to strengthen the tip vortices for increased downward induced velocity upon the leading-edge vortices. This in turn moves the low-pressure core directly above the top surface of the wing to greatly enhance lift.

Analysis of Flow Pattern with Low Reynolds Number around Different Shapes of Bridge Piers, and Determination of Hydrodynamic Forces, using Open Foam Software

In many cases, a set of obstacles, such as bridge piers and abutments, are located in the river waterway. Bridge piers disrupt river’s normal flow, and the created turbulence and disturbance causes diversion of flow lines and creates rotational flow. Geometric shape and position of the piers with respect to flow direction and also number of piers and their spacing are effective on changing the ...

Simulation of Lid Driven Cavity Flow at Different Aspect Ratios Using Single Relaxation Time Lattice Boltzmann Method

Abstract   Due to restrictions on the choice of relaxation time in single relaxation time (SRT) models, simulation of flows is generally limited base on this method. In this paper, the SRT lattice Boltzmann equation was used to simulate lid driven cavity flow at different Reynolds numbers (100-5000) and three aspect ratios, K=1, 1.5 and 4. The point which is vital in convergence of this scheme ...

Three-dimensional flows around low-aspect-ratio flat-plate wings at low Reynolds numbers

Three-dimensional flows over impulsively translated low-aspect-ratio flat plates are investigated for Reynolds numbers of 300 and 500, with a focus on the unsteady vortex dynamics at post-stall angles of attack. Numerical simulations, validated by an oil tow-tank experiment, are performed to study the influence of aspect ratio, angle of attack and planform geometry on the wake vortices and the ...

Unsteadiness in Flow over a Flat Plate at Angle-of-Attack at Low Reynolds Numbers

Flow over an impulsively started low-aspect-ratio flat plate at angle-of-attack is investigated for a Reynolds number of 300. Numerical simulations, validated by a companion experiment, are performed to study the influence of aspect ratio, angle of attack, and planform geometry on the interaction of the leading-edge and tip vortices and resulting lift and drag coefficients. Aspect ratio is foun...
